Tandem Screen Share Privacy Policy
Effective 27 September 2026
Tandem Screen Share ("Tandem") shows a computer, phone or tablet screen on an Amazon Fire TV on the same Wi-Fi network. This policy covers the Tandem Fire TV app, the Tandem Android app and the Tandem web app, and lists all the data they use.
In short
- Your screen and its sound go directly from your device to your TV over your own network, encrypted. They never pass through Tandem's servers.
- To start a connection, a small server passes setup messages between your device and your TV. It keeps the data listed below for a few hours at most. The one exception is the record that reserves a TV's pairing code, which it keeps for 90 days.
- Tandem has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. We don't sell or share your data.
What the server handles
| Data | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The public IP address of your TV and of the sharing device | To list only the TVs on your network, and to limit repeated share requests and code guessing | While connected, at most 3 hours. Abuse-limit counters: 10 minutes. |
| Your TV's name and pairing code | To show your TV in the list and route share requests to it | While the TV is connected, at most 3 hours |
| The sharing device's name and a random device ID created by the app | To show who wants to share on the TV, and to let your TV remember devices you allowed | While connected, at most 3 hours |
| A one-way hash of a secret your TV creates, stored with its pairing code | To stop other devices from posing as your TV | 90 days after your TV last connects |
| Connection setup messages (WebRTC offers, answers and network candidates, which include your devices' addresses on your local network) | Passed between your device and TV so they can connect directly | Not stored. The server forwards them immediately. |
| Server error logs (pairing codes and internal connection IDs, no IP addresses) | To diagnose failures | 14 days |
Records are deleted when a device disconnects. Records a disconnect misses expire after the time shown and are never used again. The database then removes expired records automatically, usually within a few days.
What stays on your devices
- Fire TV app: the TV's pairing code, its secret, and the names and device IDs of devices you allowed or blocked. To remove the device list, open Allowed devices and choose Forget all. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes everything.
- Web app: a random device ID, the device name shown on the TV, and the server address, in your browser's storage. Clearing site data removes them.
- Android app: a random device ID. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Android app permissions
- Screen capture: used only after you start a share and accept Android's prompt. Capture stops when you stop sharing.
- Microphone (Android 10 and later): Android requires this permission for an app to capture other apps' sound. Tandem never sends microphone audio. It replaces every microphone recording with the sound your device is playing, or with silence. If you deny the permission, Tandem shares video only.
- Notifications: to show that a share is running, with a Stop button.
Service providers
The server and the web app run on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the US West (Oregon) region, which processes the data above on Tandem's behalf. The web app is delivered through Amazon CloudFront, with access logging turned off.
Children
Tandem is not directed at children under 13, and it doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices
You can remove the data on your devices as described above. Data on the server expires on its own within the times listed. For questions or requests about your data, email support@tandemscreen.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date.
